GELID is a new company who started out on the right foot with a sweet 120mm fan!

Scythe has provided two sweet fan controllers for us. The Kaze Master series are some of the best controllers I've seen to date.

Kopi's Cooler Shootout

Introduction

There are hundreds of CPU heatsinks on the market today. Some geared towards budget, some geared towards performance. My goal in this review is to take 10 of the most common CPU heatsinks and put them up against each other in a test to determine after all, what is the best air cooler? The temperatures will be read by CoreTemp v0.94. Idle temps are taken after a cold boot, and sitting in windows with only coretemp open, temps are recorded after 5 minutes. Load temps are taken after 15 minutes Orthos stress. CPU thermal paste used was Arctic Silver 5 and the BB sized dot method. The test will be run in open air (case less) with hopefully the closest ambients possible.

The test will be run at stock and at overclocked speeds. The 120mm group will have the upgraded fan of a Silverstone FM121 (110cfm) The 92mm group will have the upgraded fan of a 92mm Panaflo (67cfm)

Before we get started, I would like to thank everyone who played a role in either sending me a cooler or tools to help me in this endeavor. None of this would have happened without you all. Thanks again!

Pre-Read Notes:
  • Temps taken at 3200mhz and 1860mhz
  • Temps read by CoreTemp .94
  • Idle = 15 minutes of Windows desktop only
  • 1.4v when OCed, 1.325v at stock.
  • Load temps are read after 5 minutes of Orthosing.

Contenders:
  • Stock Cooling
  • Thermalright XP-90
  • Thermalright Ultra 90
  • Zalman CNPS 9700NT
  • Thermaltake Big Typhoon
  • Scythe Infinity
  • Noctua 120
